Sing, India with Jerry Amaldev (SIWJA) could not have selected an occasion more perfect than Children's Day to interact with young people. The students of St. Patrick's Academy could not have received a Children's Day gift more enjoyable than a musical treat from SIWJA!

St. Patrick's Academy is an impressive school set in a rustic locale at Manjapra, Angamaly, and run by the Patrician brothers. On the auspicious occasion, Jerry Amaldev lit the traditional lamp and inaugurated the newly constructed auditorium. As a gesture of affection and welcome, the children presented a rose to each Sing, Indian. Then, SIWJA began!

The audience, comprising kids from Class 1 to 12 and their teachers, applauded each song as SIWJA rendered Onnaanaam Thumbi Vaayo, Bahaay Kubo, Penninte Chenchundil, Vande Maataram, Ini Neela Vishaalathayil, Top of the World, Asatoma Sadgamaya, Poovattaka Thatti Chinni, Aanna Aanna Jaana, Shaantham Prashaantham, Thudikottaam, Bumbadabum and Aayiram Kannumaay. Moved by the children's enthusiasm, Jerry Amaldev yielded and allowed them to clap to the beat of the songs! He also interacted with the children prior to songs such as Bahaay Kubo, Vande Maataram and Top of the World.

The performance, which lasted for more than an hour, came to a close with the singing of the evergreen melody - Aayiram Kannumaay. With Jerry Amaldev's permission, the thrilled audience joined SIWJA at the chorus! It was astonishing to see how this song still reverberated across generations! Following the show, Sing, Indians were surrounded by children expressing their sincere appreciation and thanks. It was an unforgettable Children's Day for the children of St. Patrick's, and indeed, for SIWJA too!

Venue: The Abad Plaza, Ernakulam

The Jerry Amaldev Foundation organised "Discover the Music in You - 2011", a one-day workshop, to spark the musical potential of Kochiites. A focussed audience attended the daylong programme, which was hosted by Sing, Indians. Starting the event on the right note, Sing, India performed four songs in four varied styles. This was followed by Jerry's interactive session on the evolution of liturgical music, and basic concepts in music such as rhythm and pitch, which he interspersed with melodic demonstrations. Then, Mitali Saraf, a talented pianist being trained in London, enthralled the audience with a classical piece by Joseph Haydn.

The next speaker was renowned music director Berny P. J., who elaborated on the influence of Carnatic raagas in Indian film music. In the afternoon, Binu John Mathews, a qualified Western Classical singer and voice trainer, illustrated the nuances of the 'bel canto' style of singing. Following that, Dr. Bhuvaneswari G., the HoD of the Music department at Maharaja's College, presented an in-depth analysis on Carnatic music.

Then, Jerry invited the participants to vocalize their talent by singing their favourite melodies, much to the delight of everyone! The successful event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, well-deserved by the tireless organisers and volunteers who made it happen.

Sing, India with Jerry Amaldev celebrated Onam this year in their own unique fashion. A colorful Pookkalam designed based on the Sing, India logo started the evening!

Many in the team wore Kerala mundus and sarees in keeping with the Onam tradition. True to their style, the team enjoyed singing classic Onam favourites such as Attappoovum nulli, Onnaanaam thumbee vaayo, Ponnonam vannoo and Onam vannonam. A hearty Onam paayasam added to the festive mood!

Date: 04 August 2011 (Thursday)

Venue: Seminar Hall, Maharaja's College, Ernakulam

"Chorus through the Ages" was a programme organised by the Music Department of Maharaja's College, Ernakulam. The session began with an interactive and enlightening lecture on the Choral tradition by Jerry Amaldev. A packed audience of over 175 students, faculty and staff listened to and actively participated in the programme.

Sing, India performed select musical pieces demonstrative of Choral singing, such as Vande Maataram (Sanskrit), William Tell Overture (Western Opera), Onnaanaam Thumbi Vaayo (Malayalam Folk) and Soon Ah Will Be Done (Negro Spiritual).

These renderings were met with enthusiastic applause by an appreciative audience. In the end, Dr. Bhuvaneswari G, Head of the Music Department, proposed the Vote of Thanks, bringing the musical session to a close.

Venue: P J Princess Regency, Puduvypeen

The Sing, Indians shared a joyful day of merriment, music, and memories at their Annual Picnic at Puduvypeen...Innovative team-building activities, combined with fun games, good food and great company made everyone come alive!

The afternoon was even better with a talent show and the much-awaited skit "The Lost Notation", well-received by a rapt audience! As the day drew to a close, various members commended the Sing, Indians, their artistic work and team spirit.

Later, Jerry Amaldev presented prizes to the winners and organisers. With heartfelt appreciation for the day's organisers, the Sing, Indians ended their picnic with music and dancing!
